Description

The building at 2-2A Record Street is a long range of the 18th century, roughcast over a stone base and covered by slate roofs. It has a moulded wooden eaves cornice and a plinth. The main three-storey, three-window section is flanked by lower two-storey wings, originally creating a symmetrical appearance. The main range features brick end stacks and irregularly placed windows. A moulded doorcase with plain pilasters and small brackets supports a gabled canopy with fretwork; this shelters an inset panelled door with panelled reveals, reached by a single step. Small three-over-six-pane sash windows with frosted glazing flank the entrance. The centre and right-hand side of the first floor have hornless twelve-pane sashes, while the left-hand side features an oriel window on three curved brackets, supported by a hipped rooflet with a dentilled cornice and containing a twelve-pane, horned sash window and narrow sidelights. Two windows are present on the second floor, with three-over-six-pane sashes to the left and centre, positioned directly under the eaves. The right-hand wing has a dentilled eaves cornice and a large tripartite oriel window with small-pane wooden glazing, supported on three curved brackets and with a flat roof at eaves level. The left-hand wing is one window wide and incorporates a doorcase, replicating that of the main range, which has been inserted since the last survey, replacing a sash window. The upper storey of this wing has a pair of four-pane sashes. The rear elevation is constructed of random stone with plain-glazed sashes under stone or concrete lintels, although the rear of number 2A is brick with late 20th century windows. The east gable end of 2A is rendered to the upper storey with stone to the ground floor, and contains late 20th century windows. The west gable end is roughcast. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
