Description
The Sandbach Mausoleum, located in the churchyard of the Church of St Digain, is a single-storey structure built in a simple Gothic Revival style. It features a single cell and a gabled roof, constructed from snecked grey shale rubble with sandstone ashlar quoins, a chamfered plinth, and dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate with a clayware ridge.
At the west end, there is a doorway with chamfered sandstone jambs and a Tudor arch, leading to an oak boarded door that is fitted with ornamented iron strap hinges. The gable parapets are adorned with sandstone kneelers, copings, and apex crosses. Above the doorway, a square inset sandstone plaque displays a carved inscription: 'HAFODUNOS / 1902 / R F SANDBACH / S SANDBACH / 1928', set within a shallow incised quatrefoil surrounded by sunk foliage ornaments at the corners.
The east end features a round-headed single light window with chamfered dressings. Both gables include pierced quatrefoil sandstone panels positioned below the apex stones. The interior was not accessible for inspection at the time of the visit.
