Description

Soar Methodist Chapel and the attached manse are rectangular buildings constructed of roughcast rubble, dating from around 1900. The chapel features simple decorative cement architraves and corner pilasters, typical of the local style, and has slate roofs with half-hipped gables and tiled ridges. The manse, which is one-and-a-half storeys and advanced at right angles to the left of the chapel, includes a lateral brick chimney with a simple cornice.

The main façade of the chapel has two large 8-pane sash windows with marginal glazing. To the right, there is a single-storey gabled porch that is also advanced at right angles to the main block, featuring double doors that lead to its inner return. The rear of the chapel has three additional windows similar to those at the front, complete with projecting stone sills, and a modern WC extension at the right corner.

The manse has a late 19th-century four-panel door on its inner (west) side, accompanied by a 16-pane unhorned sash window to the left, both with segmental heads. Above, there is another 16-pane window located under the eaves. The front gable of the manse has plain bargeboards and modern windows on both the ground and upper floors, again with segmental heads. The east side of the manse overlooks a stream and features an advanced section to the left, which has a continuous catslide roof extending from the hip of the chapel's gable end. This section includes further 16-pane unhorned sash windows on both floors, with the upper window set in a gabled dormer that slightly breaks the eaves.

The interior was not inspected during the survey.
