Description

Neuadd Elwy is a former village hall built in the early 20th century, featuring two-and-a-half storeys and an L-plan layout. It is constructed from local rubble with limestone ashlar dressings and has a slate roof topped by a plain brick central chimney.

The main front of the building has a two-bay entrance section on the left, which includes a large gabled section that advances to the right. The entrance is segmentally-arched and features a four-panel 19th-century door, along with a slated canopy porch supported by curved brackets on shaped corbels. To the right of the entrance is a 12-pane sash window with a segmental head and dressed stone voussoirs, along with a projecting sill. A similar window is located on the first floor.

The right section of the building has three large segmentally-arched openings on the ground floor, accented by limestone ashlar quoins and voussoirs. These openings have been reduced and now contain large 9-pane metal-framed windows. The first floor features two 12-pane sash windows, similar to those below, with a projecting stone plaque between them inscribed with: 'Neuadd Elwy Er Cof Am Richard Wynne Garthewin 1933'. At the gable apex, there is an additional 9-pane sash window with a round-arched head.

On the south side, there is a two-bay gable with segmentally-headed sash windows on both the ground and first floors, as well as a round-arched sash window at the gable. To the left, there is a contemporary one-and-a-half storey single-bay section with a lean-to roof, featuring a modern glazed door leading to a reduced segmentally-headed entrance and a squat cambered 6-pane sash window above.

The interior was not inspected during the survey.
