Description

This is a substantial house, dating from the 18th century. It was designed with a prominent gabled wing to the south, intended to contain the main living rooms, and a lower range set at right angles, originally housing a morning room and kitchen, facing the street. A service wing is positioned behind. The house is constructed of brick, with stone dressings to the ground floor, and timber framing above, all topped with a slate roof that features a tiled cresting and decorative finials to the gables. Brick axial stacks are present.

The main entrance is located at the inner angle of the gable, accessed via a 2-centred chamfered archway leading to a recessed porch. The upper storey is heavily jettied, supported by moulded brackets carrying a bressumer. A six-light mullioned window is found on the first floor, with a three-light window in the jettied gable apex above. The upper windows have leaded panes. The bressumer displays an inscription detailing the date and decorative motifs. To the right of the doorway is a full-height, canted bay window with stone mullioned and transomed windows on the ground floor, and timber mullioned windows above. This bay window is linked to the main gable by a balustraded balcony at first floor level. Further three-light mullioned windows are present on the ground floor.

The south-facing garden front features two to four-light mullioned and transomed windows with leaded upper panes on the ground floor, the right-hand window being within a rectangular bay. A single-storeyed gabled service wing wraps around the angle to the rear.
