Description

Heathfield is a building constructed of brick with stone dressings and features half-timbering in the upper storey. It has a plain tiled roof with end wall and axial stacks. The entrance front is characterized by three timber-framed jetted gables that project from the main roof line. The entrance is located in the left-hand gable, featuring a four-centred arched door with sidelights. Next to the doorway is a five-light mullioned and transomed window. The ground floor of the right-hand bay is recessed and includes a four-light mullioned window, with the gabled upper storey extending forward on heavy brackets. The upper storey has mullioned windows with four and five leaded lights. The apexes of the jetted gables display a date on the bressumer of the central gable. A prominent chimney stack is situated at the angle of the left-hand gable, adjacent to the return of the west-facing gable; this stack is made of brick with a stepped plat band and timbering only at the apex of the gable. Each floor features a four-light mullioned window, with transoms on the ground floor, and there is a lean-to bay with a three-light mullioned and transomed window to the right. A brick stack intersects the gable to the right. The garden front faces north and includes an advanced central gable with a doorway (which may have been inserted or renewed) and a four-light window above it. The timber-framed apex of the gable has asymmetrical windows. The left-hand bay, which serves as the service end, contains smaller mullioned windows with one and two lights, while the right-hand bay features a four-light mullioned and transomed stair window. There is also a canted bay window to the right, with brick on the lower storey, timber framing above, and a hipped tiled roof.
