Description

Cae-Melwr Farmhouse is a two-storey farmhouse with its main front and much of the left return constructed from dressed stone that has been painted. The extensions and rear are built from painted rubble, and there is a plinth. The roof is slate and widely hipped, featuring a square stone chimney on the left and a rectangular stone chimney on the right. The entrance front faces roughly north and includes three windows, with a vertical masonry break between the left and central windows. On the first floor, there are 19th-century tripartite sash windows with horns, set at the eaves. Below the right window is a stone with the inscription 'Sr P B Bar 1789', beneath the central window is a heraldic shield, and below the left window is a stone with the inscription 'G W 1662'.

The central doorway features a panelled door with a four-pane over-light, flanked by tall eight-pane horned sash windows. The outer bays have sixteen-pane sash windows. The left return has, on the right side, a group of three windows under running hoodmoulds on each floor; on the first floor, there is a sixteen-pane sash window on the left and two blocked three-light mullioned windows on the right. On the ground floor, there are two sixteen-pane sash windows on the left and a blocked three-light mullioned window on the right. To the left (rear) of these, there is a section with rubble masonry that has a sixteen-pane sash window on each floor.

The elevation to the right features a single-storey lean-to with modern glazing and a chimney on the left, along with a first-floor window on the right. At the rear, there is a tall chimney with a projecting shouldered breast and a small window on the left side of the first floor. There is a single-storey lean-to porch with a modern door and glazing, and a broad window on the left. To the right of the porch and chimney, there is a square-headed window on each floor with modern glazing, and to the right of these, there is a section of wall in smooth render with a doorway set back in a recess.

The main part of the house has high ceilings with some chamfered beams. The rear of the house features a double framed ceiling with stop-chamfered beams and joists, along with a late 17th-century to early 18th-century doorframe that has moulded lintels and jambs.
