Description
The North Range of Farmyard Buildings at Plas Kinmel, which includes the enclosed muck yard and entrance gate pier, is a notable structure from the 19th century. The farmyard is accessed through a single opening at the northwest corner. The northern range that encloses the farmyard consists of a stable and barn, constructed from rubble limestone and topped with a hipped slate roof. The stable features doors on both sides and two hipped dormer windows in the loft above. At the eastern end, the barn has sliding black painted boarded doors and ventilation slits. The northern side of the range continues with an additional building that opens to the north; this is a long hipped midstrey with two brick stacks that have outsetting heads.
The square muck yard is surrounded by a rubble limestone wall, approximately 1.2 meters high, with flush weathered coping and rounded corners, and it has a gate access on the eastern side. The gate piers and walling extend across the wide western side of the yard, leading to the rear of the house.
The roofs are fully torched and supported by steeply pitched trusses made of iron rod ties, which flatten to a central shoe, with a rod tie at the apex and seating for raking timber struts to the principal rafters. There is a single tier of purlins.
