Description
The Warden's residence at Marl Hall is a 1½-storey house constructed of whitened rubble with a slate roof. It features a large original external stack on the left gable end, which has a later brick shaft, and a small recent offset gabled stack on the right gable end. The entrance is positioned to the right and has a replacement door. To the right of the entrance is a window in an earlier opening, while to the left is a 4-light wood-framed window in an enlarged opening. The house has three 19th-century gabled half dormers: the right-hand dormer contains a 4-pane horizontal-sliding sash window, the centre has a replacement window, and the left-hand dormer features an 8-pane horizontal-sliding sash window.
On the left gable end, there are inserted windows to the left of the stack, and to the right, there is a boarded-up doorway under a timber lintel. The right gable end also has inserted windows to the right of the stack. The rear of the house, which was once built against a bank, is rendered on the lower part of the wall and has two 2-light gabled roof dormers.
Although not inspected, a previous survey from 1975 noted a stop-chamfered joist-beam ceiling.
