Description
The former dovecote, known as Dove Cottage, is a tall and narrow two-storey structure located on a sloping site with a high plinth. It is built of rubble stone and features a slate roof. The roof includes a central tall boarded ventilator with louvered panels, topped by a pyramid roof with an apex weathervane. The front of the dovecote faces a small courtyard on the northeast side and has stone and slate steps leading up to a boarded door, which is set behind a stone parapet. Above the door, there is a stone plat band.
On the upper storey, there is an inserted window to the left of centre at a low level, as well as a central 18-pane horned-sash window located just below the eaves. The left (southeast) gable end features a corbelled 18-pane horned sash window inserted in the upper storey, flanked by original brackets that support pigeon holes and ledges. In the rear (southwest) wall, an 18-pane horned sash window has replaced a former loft door and is flanked by ventilation strips.
Attached to the downhill gable end, at a lower level, is a mid-19th century former game larder that has been converted into a 1½-storey cottage known as Gingerbread Cottage.
