Description
The Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea is a Gothic church built with yellow stone and red sandstone ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof. The chancel features a polygonal apse and includes two-light windows, with a larger three-light window set in the gable end. The nave consists of five bays and has lean-to aisles, a polygonal baptistry located at the south-west end of the southern side aisle, and a porch at the south-west end of the northern side aisle. The clerestorey windows are composed of three trefoil-headed lights in square-headed openings, while the aisle windows have two trefoil-headed lights with quatrefoils in three-centred openings, complete with dripstones.
At the south-west end of the northern side aisle, there is a prominent gabled porch that features a statue of Our Lady of the Sea in a canopied and crocketed niche at the upper part of the front wall. The porch entrance is adorned with a pointed moulded arch. Above the south-western nave entrance, a large four-light window is positioned with a moulded pointed arch.
Inside, the nave is supported by arches with circular columns, and it has a timber roof, while the chancel boasts a ribbed roof. The reredos includes statues and reliefs in canopied niches, and there are some stained glass windows present.
