Description

The Christian Centre, which includes an attached hall, was formerly a chapel. It is constructed of dark red brick with ashlar dressings and features a shallow dome topped with a lantern. The building has cornices and a parapet along its walls. The north-east, south-east, and south-west elevations each consist of three bays.

On the south-east elevation, the central bay projects forward and contains a three-light window in the Ionic order, topped with a triangular pediment. The central light is rusticated and round-headed with a keystone, while the flanking narrow lights are square-headed and have small pediments. Each outer bay features a round-headed window with a rusticated architrave above, alongside a doorway with a moulded architrave, a pulvinated frieze, a large keystone, and a cornice below. The south-west and north-east elevations are similar, each having a recessed centre bay with a large round-headed window with a keystone, flanked by Ionic columns in antis and topped with a triangular pediment. The outer bays project forward and have tall round-headed arches with keystones, within which there are triple light square-headed windows at a lower level, surmounted by similar windows with small pediments above.

To the rear, there is a Sunday School built against the north-west elevation of the church. The roof is gabled and runs on a north-east to south-west axis. One bay facing south-west is styled similarly to the chapel, featuring a Venetian window, quoins, and a pedimented gable with coping.

The interior of the chapel has a centralised plan, comprising an oval space enclosed at the corners by rectangular vestibules and a vestry. The umbrella dome has oculi in the drum and is supported by Renaissance-style iron columns. The walls are lined with wooden boarding and panelling up to approximately 1.5 meters high, with pedimented doorways leading to the vestries and vestibules. The stage, which formerly housed the pulpit and organ, features a broad elliptical arch on paired Ionic columns, and there is a segmental arch leading to the former organ recess. The chapel also contains stained glass windows depicting the Light of the World and Christ the Good Shepherd.
