Description
Nos 399-425 Abergele Road and 1 Princess Road in Old Colwyn form a group of buildings that includes a large corner structure at Nos 417-425, likely the first built in the area, originally designed as a single shop with living space above. This group features a terrace of six shops with accommodation above, which has been divided into two shops with living space. The buildings are constructed from rock-faced coursed and squared rubble with ashlar dressings, topped with slate roofs that have red tiled cresting. Nos 417-425 have stone axial stacks, while the adjoining terrace features brick end wall stacks.
Nos 399-415 consist of six shops, each highlighted by a crow-stepped main gable and a smaller gable above a subsidiary bay. The ground floor shop fronts have mostly been renewed, but pavement canopies remain at Nos 413 and 415. Each main gable features timber canted oriel windows on the first floor, which have slate roofs, along with 2-pane sash windows on both floors in the smaller gables. The main gables also include 2-pane sash windows in their apexes.
