Description
Nant-y-Bella Lodge is a gate lodge built from local limestone rubble. It features a main residential section and a squat cylindrical tower, positioned to the left and right of the driveway, respectively. The main part is a square tower topped with crenellated battlements, and it has a tall cylindrical watch-tower attached to the north at the front. The watch-tower has a double-corbelled upper stage that mimics machicolations and a shallow conical slate roof, along with a small brown brick chimney at the rear.
The front of the lodge includes a pointed-arched window with a cusped cast-iron frame, designed by Rickman and cast at the Mersey Iron Foundry, as well as a similar window on the inner return of the main tower, which has a Tudor-arched entrance below. To the south of the watch-tower, there is a later rubble park boundary wall, and a modern storeyed extension has been added to the rear of the main block. The cylindrical tower to the north features a corbelled upper section but does not have battlements. Half-round stone gatepiers are located next to both the cylindrical tower and the watch-tower, although the gates are missing.
