Description

Llwyn-dedwydd is a stone and limewashed building with a slate roof, dating from the 18th century. It has two storeys, attics, and a cellar. The main east-west range consists of three rooms set downhill, with a rear kitchen or dairy added slightly later and further extended in the 20th century. The original entrance was likely at the center or on the east side of the west bay on the south side. A small gabled brick porch at the northwest corner features a boarded door that leads directly into the main living hall beside the gable stack. A narrower central stair bay beyond leads to the parlour in the east end bay, which has a gable stack. The range likely originally continued as a farm building, now mostly removed.

Inside, there is an 18th-century four-panelled door within the open porch, and timber windows, with the parlour and kitchen featuring 19th-century four-paned sash windows. A tall triple transomed timber window in the stair area has early leaded glass and saddle bars. At the east end, wing walls, probably from a former farm building, have oval openings and support a pent roof.

The main living room has a flagged floor and a chamfered cross ceiling beam with ogee stops, along with a large open fireplace featuring an unchamfered fire lintel. The parlour includes a boarded dado with small plain pilasters and a duck's nest iron fireplace, surrounded by a bold egg and dart moulding, likely added in recent times. Six-panelled 18th-century doors with L hinges and some original furniture are set in panelled reveals, and there are panelled early 18th-century shutters at the windows. The kitchen, originally a dairy, has twin chamfered ceiling beams. An oak dog-leg open-well stair features stout columnar newels and two turned balusters for each bracketed tread, with a moulded string swept at the landings. The attic has semi-lunette windows at the east gable, and collar trusses are chisel marked, with principals halved at the ridge. There is also a cellar below the parlour.
