Description
The kitchen garden walls at Bryn Eisteddfod date from the 18th and 19th centuries and are particularly striking where they border the road. These walls enclose a rectangular area and connect to the brick carthouse at the rear and to the right. The structure consists of two sections, with the parts associated with the carthouse being a 19th-century addition to the earlier, larger primary square enclosure from the 1760s, which relates to the new house built by the Jones family. A rubble dividing wall links the earlier and later sections; the later section is made of rubble, while the earlier section is typically rubble faced internally with brick.
The walls have been raised on the north and east sides facing the road. In the earlier section, there is an entrance from the 1830s featuring a Tudor arch with a chamfered design and a boarded door. At the corner of the north and east walls, there is a blind, chamfered slit-light. The wall continues to the right, bounding the road, where there is a plain boarded door. This section slopes down to become a plain-railed dwarf wall. On the lower south side, there is a raised arched entrance in the center with a boarded, part-latticed door, and 20th-century double gates are located at the southwest corner.
Towards the northeast corner, there are three glasshouses from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, constructed of red brick and timber with multi-pane glazing. The central glasshouse features wooden ball finials on its gables and has a longer southern pitch with a raised plinth to the north. The glasshouse to the right is a long lean-to type, built against the east wall.
