Description

Fedw Deg Old Farmhouse is a 17th-century building constructed from roughly coursed rubble on a foundation of heavier masonry. It features an old slate roof laid in diminishing courses and has a square stone chimney on the northeast gable end, which was formerly a partition wall. The wooden lintels and mullions of the windows, which are stop-chamfered, were renewed in the mid-20th century, although a small window on the northwest retains its original materials. The entrance front faces southeast towards the hillside, with the upper floor showcasing two broad windows set at the eaves, featuring restored frames and mullions.

On the ground floor, to the right, there is a Cyclopean doorway with slate slab jambs, while to the left, there is one larger and one smaller horizontally proportioned window under renewed wooden lintels that are also stop-chamfered. The southwest gable, which sits on a plinth, has no openings. The rear elevation has no first-floor openings; the ground floor features a square-headed doorway to the right with a renewed wooden lintel and no jambs, and a small horizontally proportioned window to the left. This window has a renewed lintel, but its frame and mullions have been restored using old materials. The northeast gable has a doorway on the first floor to the left and a square-headed doorway on the ground floor that formerly led to a lost section of the house.

Inside, there is a two-bay ceiling supported by three chamfered beams. A restored and relocated post and panel partition includes two doorways, each topped with a wooden broad ogee head. At the northeast end, there is a large fireplace with a cambered chamfered beam. Part of the old roof structure remains, featuring curved principals that rise from the ceiling beam, a collar but no tie beam, and a ridge with three tiers of trenched purlins.
