Description

Llanerch Elsi is a storied farmhouse built into the side of a rocky rise, constructed from whitened rubble and set on a rubble plinth. It features a late 19th century slate roof with deep verges and plain bargeboards. The farmhouse has squat end chimneys, which have later extensions added to their tops. The entrance is located to the right of the center and is accessed through a late 19th or early 20th century part-open gabled timber porch. The boarded door has an inscription to the right that reads "T.P. 1779". Flanking the entrance are late Victorian 4-pane recessed sash windows, with similar, smaller windows above under the eaves, all featuring projecting slate cills. To the left of the entrance is another similar window, beyond which is a small light with a large irregular slate shelf above, along with two nesting box niches.

Adjoining the right side and sharing a roof with the main block is a later stable or byre bay, likely built around 1779. This section has a wide entrance at the front with a timber lintel and a chamfered doorcase, along with a 19th century boarded door that has a square vent in the upper section. There is also a boarded upper entrance on the right gable. To the left gable, there is a later 19th century lean-to with a small light to the south and a plain chimney at the rear.

Inside, there is a large inglenook fireplace on the left gable, which was part of the former hall. The narrow entrance lobby features 18th century post-and-panel partitions. A simple late 17th or early 18th century staircase with flat, shaped balusters leads to the upper levels.
