Description
Pont yr Afanc is a large single-span road bridge built around 1800, which was noted as new by Richard Fenton in 1810 when it was referred to as Pont Llyn Afanc. The bridge features a segmental arch measuring approximately 30 meters and is constructed from snecked, rusticated blocks, with fine voussoirs and soffit, and projecting keystones. Below the arch, there is a plain string-course that supports a slab-coped rubble parapet. The approaches to the bridge are splayed, with battered abutments that end in simple buttresses. This bridge is a significant and imposing example of early 19th-century road architecture.
