Description

Nant-y-Gwyrddail Farmhouse is an L-shaped, one-and-a-half-storey farmhouse built in the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and late 19th centuries. It is constructed from large rubble blocks and features a slate roof with a tiled ridge and squat end chimneys that have capping and weather coursing. The entrance is off-centre to the right and has a modern half-glazed door. To the left of the entrance is a small square window, and to the left of this and to the right of the door are slightly recessed 6-pane 19th-century sash windows. The upper floor has similar, though smaller, windows that slightly break the eaves and are set within gabled dormers with slate bargeboards. The rear of the house has modern windows, with one to the left set within the original three-light embrasure featuring a slightly projecting lintel.

There is a near-contemporary rear wing that was extended in the late 19th century, which is not shown on the 1872 estate map. The left side has modern garage doors, with a 16-pane flush casement window above and a 6-pane window to the left, along with a modern window below. Inside, the original hall is to the left and the parlour is to the right of the present altered central bay, which includes a part-enclosed stair. The ceiling features deeply stopped-chamfered transverse beams. The parlour has an 18th-century 6-panel door and a crude 18th-century balustraded stair landing.
