Bryn Ysgol

Nos 1-3 Bryn Ysgol is a long single-storey terrace of former almshouses, originally consisting of six one-window units arranged as three reflected pairs, but now converted into three units. The building is constructed from rubble and features a continuous medium-pitched slate roof with three equally spaced shared chimneys. It has simple moulded cornicing with weathercoursing.

The current openings are arranged as follows from left to right: a window (which was a former door), a window, a window, a door, a window (which was a former door), a window, a window, a door, a window (which was a former door), a window, and a window with a door. The doors are boarded 20th-century designs with upper glazed panels, and the windows are 4-pane casements, all with slate lintels and cills.

Between the two right-hand units, there is an engraved slate dedication tablet from 1880, set within a shaped-pedimented sandstone frame. On the north gable end, there is a notable armorial slate dedication tablet featuring a lengthy inscription and the arms of the Vaughans of Pant Glas. This tablet is the original dedication of Captain Vaughan's almshouses from 1709, which was relocated here in 1880. The rear of the building is rendered and has modern entrances and windows.
