Description
Tynllan is a single-storey primary range oriented north-south, with a one and a half storey cross-range oriented east-west. The building is constructed from rubble and has rough-cast finishes on all west-facing walls. It features slate roofs, with the primary block having a steep pitch. The end chimneys are simply capped and include weathercoursing.
The eastern section, known as Tynllan, has a modern part-glazed door leading into the early range, accompanied by a 19th-century four-pane casement window to the left and a blocked window beyond. The east-west range has a nine-pane fixed window on the ground floor, with a hipped dormer above that contains a four-pane casement. Attached to the east gable is a later rubble gabled outhouse with a slate roof, featuring a boarded door on the right and a small plain-glazed window to the left.
Bryn, which predominantly faces west, has two six-pane casement windows on the ground floor of the cross-wing gable, with two four-pane casements above. There is a boarded door to the left of the primary range and another near-central entrance beyond, which has a run-off-stopped pine doorcase. Flanking windows include a four-pane window to the left and a six-pane window to the right. A catslide dormer with a four-pane sash is present in a recessed addition to the left, with a six-pane fixed window beneath it.
Inside, the primary range of Bryn reveals two visible cruck pairs with smoke-blackening. It has pegged collars and purlins. Beneath the southernmost bay, there is a rubble basement on the downhill side that contains a fine ceiling, likely from the mid or third quarter of the 16th century, featuring central cross beams and well-scantled joists, all with wide chamfers and broach stops. There is a boarded door and a blocked window to the right, with formerly stepped access from above.
