Description
3 Glandwr Cottages, including the garden wall and gates, are a mirrored pair of late 19th century cottages built in a simplified gothic style typical of the Tan-y-bwlch estate from that period. They are constructed from mortared rubble masonry, featuring large stones as quoins and lintels. The cottages have a slate roof with overhanging eaves and verges, and a broad central stone stack with dripstones and capping. Each house includes a gabled half dormer that interrupts the eaves line at the center of the main elevation; these dormers are set forward from the wall and have timbered panelling at the apex, topped with shaped finials. The gable apexes also feature similar, but open, panels. Along the main elevation, there is a full-width verandah with a slate roof supported by timber piers. The doorways are positioned at the outer ends of the main elevation, and the windows are timber casements with 2 and 3 lights, each with slate sills. The garden is enclosed by a low rubble wall with raking stone slab coping, complemented by tall square gatepiers with pyramidal heads, and topped with alternating tall and short vertical railings that have arrowhead finials. It is noted that No 3 has had its original wooden casements replaced with UPVC windows. The interior was not inspected during the survey conducted in June and July 2003.
