Description
Nos 1, 2 and 3 Mawddwy Cottages are built in a strong mountain-Gothic style using local slate stone rubble, which is roughly coursed, and topped with slate roofs. The south elevation is rendered and lined out. The cottages are two storeys high, with No 1 on the south elevation, No 2 facing the road on the west elevation, and No 3 on the north elevation. Each gable features wavy bargeboards, and the west elevation has a central gable.
Near the centre of each elevation, there is a steeply gabled porch with an open outer pointed arch, also adorned with shaped bargeboards. The cottages have 12-paned sash windows that are set back under a two-centred arch made of stone voussoirs. Each elevation has one window on either side of the porch and one above it on the west elevation, while the north and south elevations only have windows on the first floor.
No 1, known as Awel Dyfi, has a modern glazed door and screen replacing the original door in the porch, along with uPVC tilting windows. No 2 features uPVC windows but retains a boarded door within the open porch. No 3 keeps the original ground floor window and a panelled door in the open porch, but has timber two-light casement windows on the upper floor.
