Description
Tydecho, located at Nos 7-14 Mawddwy Terrace in Minllyn, Dinas Mawddwy, is a terrace of eight workers' cottages built in the mountain-Gothic style. Constructed with selected local slate laid on bed, the cottages feature slate roofs. The two end cottages are bilaterally symmetrical and have large gables that are set slightly forward to emphasize the central cottages. Each cottage has a 4-paned half-glazed door with a plain overlight and 4-paned horned sash windows on both floors, all topped with triangular heads made of shale voussoirs. The upper floor windows in the central cottages are set within five large raised gabled dormers. The design includes deep eaves supported by extended purlins and a ridge with shaped ends. Stone stacks are positioned on the party walls, featuring necking strings and outsetting heads. The large gable ends display decorative timber framing in the upper half. Internally, the partitions are reportedly made of slate slabs set on end, which is an innovation attributed to Buckley and his architect, James Stephens. No 7 forms a bilateral pair with No 8 at the southern end of the terrace, and No 8 has uPVC windows that approximately follow the pattern of the original.
