Description

The building is a terrace of three cottages dating from the second quarter of the 19th century, built in a vernacular Gothic style. They are constructed of squared, rough-dressed blocks of local stone, with slate dressings. The cottages have one-and-a-half storeys and a continuous, renewed slate roof with tiled ridges, topped by three large stone chimneys with simple capping. Numbers 50 and 52 form an identical pair, each with two windows. Number 48 is also a two-window unit, but it projects slightly and has a broad, shallow gable with oversailing verges and eaves, featuring plain modern bargeboards. The central entrances to numbers 48 and 50 have modern doors, while number 52 has a 19th-century six-panel door with glazed central panels. Both numbers 50 and 52 have triangular heads to their entrance and flanking windows, with projecting slate labels and simple triangular fans. The cottages have two-pane casement windows from the 20th century to both floors, with upper-floor windows breaking the eaves and set within shallow gabled dormers, all with triangular overlights. Number 48 has square-headed windows with 20th-century glazing, which consists of triple-tilting sections above plain lower sections, and a triangular-headed niche to the gable apex. The interior was not inspected. The buildings are part of a group including numbers 48, 50 and 52 Mount Street.
