Description
Pont Pen-y-benglog is a bridge featuring a small single-span segmental-arched structure made of rubblestone, located on the eastern side and now lacking its road surface. This original bridge has been replaced by a larger and higher bridge that follows the curve of the road to its west. The newer structure is constructed from irregularly coursed rubblestone and includes a slate string course and slate coping on the parapet. It has a wide single-span segmental arch with voussoirs and simple tapering pilaster buttresses on each side. The eastern side of the bridge is completely obscured by mid-20th century widening work directly above the original 18th-century bridge. This later addition is made of roughly coursed rubblestone, with an arch that mirrors the shape of Telford's bridge to the west, featuring a string course and regular pilaster buttresses leading to a straight parapet on this side.
