Description

Bwlch y Maen is a two-storey house that was formerly a shop, built in the Georgian style typical of the estate during that period. The exterior features coursed stone masonry and a large stone lintel above the ground floor openings. The roof is slate with overhanging eaves, and there are large rectangular end stacks with dripstones and capping. The building may have originally been two separate houses, each with two windows, and the doorways are offset to the right (north). The ground floor has two large, two-pane windows with one doorway positioned between them, which has a plain overlight. There is another doorway at the right (north) end, also with an overlight that includes glazing bars. On the first floor, there are two 12-pane hornless sash windows, offset to the left of the doorways and situated under the eaves. Between these windows is an insurance plaque and an inscribed stone that indicates the date of 1834. At the rear, the basement storey retains small paned casement windows. The interior was not inspected during the survey conducted in June and July 2003.
