Description

Tan-lan is a substantial house built into a hillside, situated on the eastern side of the road. It dates to an unknown period, and is constructed of mortared rubble masonry, with the right-hand gable rendered. The roof is slate-covered, featuring rendered rectangular gable stacks with capping. The house has four storeys at the front and three at the rear, presented as a three-window range. A timber balcony spans the width of the building at first floor level, supported by stone piers, and is accessible via an external flight of stone steps at the northern end; these steps have raking coping along the western wall. The main doorway is centrally located, with a further doorway at ground floor level. Windows are 16-pane horned sash windows with slate sills. The gable ends towards the rear of the building feature single windows at both the first and second floors. The interior was not inspected during the survey in June/July 2003.
