Description
The Hywel Dda Hotel is a 2-and-a-half storey building constructed from large rubble blocks and topped with a slate roof. It features a road-facing range with end chimneys that have plain capping and weather coursing, along with a plain eaves cornice. The front is symmetrical with three bays: the central bay has a large original 12-pane recessed sash window on the ground floor, while the flanking bays contain smaller 12-pane sashes from the 19th century, and there are additional 12-pane sash windows on the first floor. Above the upper floor, there is a central open pediment that contains a small modern window. The building has flanking rubble gabled dormers with modern windows that break the eaves, and the dormers feature slated bargeboards.
Between the ground and first floors of the central bay, there is a contemporary recessed slate plaque inscribed with "built by R.H.V. Esq. 1789." Additionally, there is a modern inscribed slate plaque above the ground-floor window to the right, dated 1969. The end chimney is repeated on the storeyed rear wing, which has modern windows. There is also a storeyed modern lean-to on the southwest gable end, along with further modern extensions to the rear and northeast.
