Description
Ty-Cerig Blaenau is a building constructed of rubble with a slate roof and gable parapets, the western gable featuring a cement-coped design. It has end chimneys that are topped with contemporary moulded capping and weather-coursing. The main southern front has an off-centre entrance to the left, featuring an original chamfered, arched opening with pronounced rubble voussoirs and a dripstone. There are flanking windows to the left and far right, with the right window having modern glazing. The left window has 4-pane sash glazing, and there are similar but smaller windows under the eaves, set within late 19th century to early 20th century shallow, segmental dormers. The rear has a blocked opposing entry with flanking windows, one to the hall on the left and two on the right, all of which are original openings with stopped-chamfered timber lintels visible externally on the right. The glazing is modern, and there is a derelict extension to the right. Additionally, there is a blocked original stair-light on the eastern gable within the byre attic, which is stepped down and built in the same manner. The entrance to the rear side has a small light to the left.
Inside, there is a cross-passage with a hall and parlour on either side. The ceiling features good quality, widely-chamfered beams with broachstops, and the joists have standard stops. The post-and-panel screen to the parlour appears to survive, although it has been plastered and papered over. There is a broach-stopped lintel above the blocked rear passage entrance. The hall contains a large inglenook fireplace with a wide, flat, broach-stopped bressummer and unusually large quoins on the fireplace splays. To the left of the fireplace, there is a contemporary chamfered, arched entrance leading to a former stone newel stair.
