Description

Llwyn-y-Cynfal is a building constructed from rubble on part-boulder foundations, featuring cyclopean blocks in the lower walling. It has rendered parapets and end chimneys that have been reduced and include weather-coursing. The roof is slate with plain eaves and rendered gables.

On the main southeast side, there is an off-centre entrance to the left, which features a fine Tudor arch made of slate-stone voussoirs and a crude returned label above. The entrance has a deeply-recessed boarded door. To the left and far right of the entrance are flanking windows with projecting stone lintels, and there is a small light to the right of the entrance. There is evidence of former rubble dormers on the upper floor, with four square windows corresponding to these.

At the rear, there is an opposing entrance with an exposed timber lintel and a deeply-recessed boarded door, along with flanking windows that are original openings, featuring similar lintels and an additional window beyond. There is a stair-light on the right gable and another small light on the left gable. Although all windows have inappropriate modern glazing, the openings themselves (except for those on the first-floor front) are original.

The interior was not inspected during the survey, but it is known to contain several internal features: a cross-passage plan, a hall with stopped-chamfered ceiling beams and joists, a large end fireplace with an inglebeam, and a mural corkscrew stair with a Tudor-arched wooden entrance.
