Description
Tenovus, located at 37 and 39 High Street, is a large three-storey building from the late Georgian period, originally likely to have been town houses. It is now used as shop premises. The building is constructed of local rubble and features a slate roof with end chimneys and a central stack on the right, all adorned with plain cornicing and weathercoursing.
The ground floor has modern shop fronts that are not in keeping with the building's character, including a recessed entrance for number 37 on the right. The upper floors are symmetrical and largely unaltered, showcasing five bays. The first floor has sixteen-pane sash windows, while the second floor features narrower six-pane sashes situated under the eaves, with projecting stone sills throughout. The interior has been modernized for shop use.
This building is part of a group that includes both 37 and 39 High Street.
