Description

Llwyn Hwlcyn is a farmhouse likely dating from the 16th century, constructed from rubble masonry featuring large stones as quoins and lintels. The roof is made of small old slates, grouted, with a tiled ridge and stone copings, and it has tall stone gable stacks with dripstones and capping. At the rear, there is a stone addition with a recent slate catslide roof and a dressed stone stack to the northwest. Additionally, there is a flat roof conservatory at the southeast corner.

The main elevation faces an enclosed garden to the west and consists of a two-window range with a central doorway and widely spaced openings. The ground floor features 6-paned lights, a horned sash window to the left (north) and a casement window to the right. The first floor has 4-paned hornless sash windows positioned directly under the eaves. A casement window has been added to the rear (east) end of the south gable. The rear doorway in the kitchen addition is offset to the north, and the doorway to the conservatory is located in the west wall; the windows in these areas are modern casements.

Inside, the house has a central passage plan, with most ground floor rooms featuring stone flag floors, although the front part of the right-hand (south) room has a wooden floor. The ground floor rooms are characterized by chamfered cross beams and exposed joists. The left-hand room contains a large timber bressumer over the inglenook, which has a significant recess in the east wall, and a stone spiral chimney stair to the west. The other ground floor room features a large stone bressumer over the fireplace. The kitchen extension at the rear includes an arched brick oven in the northwest corner.
