Description

Moelwyn Mill and Millhouse is an early 18th century water-driven fulling mill that has undergone 19th century alterations. It is notable for being the only fulling mill in the Merioneth district that still has its machinery intact.

The mill itself is a two-storey building made of rubble with a renewed slate roof, and it has some rock foundations. The entrance is stepped down to the left and features a modern boarded door. To the right, there are two modern 12-pane windows, with three more above them, spaced irregularly. A large overshot waterwheel with wooden spokes and an iron wheel is located to the right. At the rear, there is a catslide outshut and a modern three-pane skylight on the roof.

Adjoining to the left is the mid-19th century millhouse, which is constructed in the same manner as the mill, with two floors above a raised basement. It has two bays, with the entrance to the right and recessed modern 12-pane replacement windows. The entrance features a modern boarded door and a plain fanlight. Below this, there is a basement entrance and an additional window to the left. Access to the entrance is provided by a modern stepped and railed pathway. The openings have rendered and whitened reveals with narrow stucco frames. The building has plain end chimneys and a slate-hung side facing the mill.

The interior was not inspected during the re-survey, but it is known to retain its machinery.
