Description

Plas-y-Brithdir Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse, built in a vernacular revival style, with later alterations to a 17th-century direct entry, end-chimney regional house. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with a raised eaves line in the 19th century. It is constructed of rubble masonry, with a moderately pitched slate roof, plain eaves, and close verges. The gable ends have polygonal stacks on bases, with moulded “Tudor” caps and water tabling. A conical roof sits above the main eaves of the storeyed porch, which is offset to the left.

Three gabled stone dormers with close verges are visible on the first floor, and Victorian sash windows are present throughout. The advanced circular storeyed porch over the doorway has a larger window with a stone lintel. The porch features a modern outer door and a broad plank inner door, hung with a strap and pintle. Narrow sashes flank the porch at ground floor level. Victorian sashes are also found in the ground floor windows, one to the left and two to the right, all with stone lintels.

At the rear, two Victorian sash windows are set under the eaves, with another window blocked to the left. There are two sash windows to the ground floor on the left, and a doorway to the right with a modern door and a small side window, also with stone lintels. One gable end is pebbledashed.

Internally, the farmhouse retains transverse ogee stop chamfered ceiling beams and 19th-century joists. The original house comprised four bays, with a concealed bressumer to the left end.
