Description
Mynediad Cae Chwarae is a structure built of rubble stonework with dressed stone copings. It features a raised arched entrance gate situated above a watercourse at the bottom of a sloping field. A flight of seven steps with iron railings leads up from pavement level beside a basin that collects clear water from a stream, which flows through a semicircular opening and cascades over a small waterfall. The gateway above has a round-headed arch with a superstructure that has curved sides rising to a coped gable. To the right of the arch, a slate tablet indicates that the land was a gift from Richard Greaves of Wern. Above the arch, there are two finely carved stone panels in relief. The left panel depicts a crowned sitting lion holding an angled shield with the arms of Great Britain, accompanied by a monogram above and an inscription reading "GEORGE V./A.D.1910-1936." The right panel features a gorged unicorn holding the same shield, with the inscription "KING GEORGE'S / FIELD" below. An iron gate completes the structure.
