Description

The stables at Dolrhyd are part of an L-plan group and date from the late 17th century to early 18th century. The lower stable range is dated 1763 and is initialled W V Esq, indicating it was built by William Vaughan. Both structures were restored in 1980. They feature rubble walls and a slate roof, with the barn using old small slates. There is a chimney stack on the left gable end of the stables.

The barn has gable end parapets with quarter round moulded kneelers and dove boxes located above the string course on the right gable end. There are slit ventilators, which are all blocked, around the building. The barn also has a Tudor label over a cambered arch that once served as a cart entrance, now fitted with modern glazed infill. A corresponding cart entrance is located at the rear, and there is a boarded door at the right end.

The stable range is symmetrical, two-storey, and has eight windows. It features a central pediment with a small circular window. The first floor has small windows, while the ground floor includes casement windows and half-glazed doors on the left, with right-flanking twin former coach entrances that have cambered voussoir heads and modern glazed infill.

The interiors have been modernised, but the barn retains a seven-bay roof supported by pegged A-frame trusses, curved struts, and purlins.
