Description
Tan-y-penmaen is a two-storey, three-window farmhouse with a single-storey agricultural range attached to the left (south) end and a single-pitched roof addition at the north. It is constructed of mortared rubble masonry that includes large stones used in the walls, quoins, and lintels. The farmhouse features a slate roof with stone coping at the south gable, and has narrow rectangular rendered gable stacks with dripstones and capping.
The house displays a good Georgian vernacular character, with a slightly offset facade. It has a boarded door located beneath a shallow overlight with glazing bars, and the windows are 16-pane hornless sashes with slate sills. The agricultural wing has its doorway offset to the right (north), with a single window to the right and three windows to the left; these windows are 8-pane casements above shutter ventilators. The single-pitched roof addition at the north gable has two wide boarded doors in the north wall.
The interior was not inspected during the survey.
