Description
Penlan is a 1.5 storey house built with coursed rubble masonry and features a moderately pitched new slate roof. The eaves are plain with close verges, and there are stone stacks with water tabling, as well as slates pitched to form flues. The house has two narrow later 19th century gabled dormers on the first floor, which have rubble cheeks and close verges. Victorian sash windows are present, with similar windows on the ground floor that have stone lintels. There is also a two-light casement window in the center, with a doorway alongside it, featuring stone lintels and a plank door.
The right end elevation of the house drops vertically down to the River Arran and includes a small loft window to the right of the gable end.
Adjoining the house on the left is a single-storey coach house, constructed in a similar style. It has a stone stack at the left end and water tabling, with a window set below the eaves to the right. Broad double doors are located to the left, with a six-pane toplight positioned below the eaves.
