Description
The barn at Clenennau is a Grade II listed structure built from boulders and rubble stonework, topped with a slate roof. It features central opposed doors, with the western door having a lower lintel, and a small door located at the northern end. Long ventilation slits are present in the barn section. At the southern end, there is an upper floor granary accessed by a substantial external stone stair on the eastern side, along with a door leading to the lower room in the gable end.
The roof consists of seven bays supported by queen post trusses, likely dating from the 17th century. These trusses have cambered collars, and the principals are trenched for two tiers of purlins, which have been replaced by the current three tiers. On the soffit of the ties, there is a mortice for an angled brace, indicating that the original structure may have been timber framed. The torching under the slates is dated to the year of grace 1838, associated with the Griffiths family. Additionally, against the southern gable wall, there is a re-used moulded and brattished beam, and an internal division separates the southern end from the main barn.
