Description
10 Eastgate Street is a block of shops with dwellings above, designed in an eclectic classical style. The front walls are made of stucco, topped with slate roofs that are slightly lower and hipped at No 4, featuring roughcast stacks. The architectural details are consistent across the three storeys, although the number of windows varies between properties. Each property is framed by angle pilasters on the middle and upper storeys, and features a frieze and a deeply moulded cornice that creates a sill band for the upper storey. The windows on the middle storey have moulded architraves with a sill band, while the upper storey showcases segmental-headed windows in plain architraves. A moulded eaves cornice is decorated with brackets that alternate with raised quatrefoil panels.
The building has a three-window range with a shop front on the lower storey. This shop front includes plate glass windows with central double doors and a deepened fascia below the original cornice. The middle and upper storeys maintain their original 2-light casements beneath fixed lights in the middle storey, and 4-pane sash windows in the upper storey. This building is part of the group of 4-14 Eastgate Street.
