Description
Tanybont Arch is a historic structure featuring a single surviving span made of coursed limestone with a segmental arch, located next to the East Gate to the west. The original bridge has been widened on the south side by the addition of a segmental pointed arch constructed from random rubble, which connects to the south drum tower. On the north side, it has been widened by a lower segmental arch made of coursed stone, which connects to the north drum tower. Behind this widening, the original structure flares out, showing signs of partial stone removal. The remaining part of the 14th-century bridge is hidden beneath Eastgate Street. On the southeast side, beneath 4 Eastgate Street, there is a 19th-century former lock-up, now serving as an Eastern Orthodox Chapel, which is attached to the south side of the bridge. This lock-up features a pointed door on the left and a window on the right.
