Description
This is a two-storey farmhouse built in the late 19th century, constructed in two distinct sections aligned east-west. The eastern section is the main range and is higher than the western, service range. The house was built using a mild Gothic style popular on the Penrhyn Estate. The front is of regularly coursed rubblestone, while the rear uses more roughly coursed stonework. Wedge lintels are used throughout, and the slate roofs have slate coping to the overhanging verges, carved purlin ends, and slate soffits.
The south elevation's eastern section features an advanced gable to the left with a two-window range. This gable has a three-light mullioned and transomed window with large lights in four panes on the ground floor and three grouped four-paned sash windows on the first floor. A large gabled porch with a Tudor-arched outer doorway, ribbed door, and inner half-glazed door sits at the angle between the two sections. Above the porch is a two-light, eight-paned eaves window with a small gable. To the right is a full-height, half-hipped section with a three-light, twelve-paned window on the first floor and a mullioned and transomed window on the ground floor, featuring large lights in four panes. An integral end stack to the right has twin diamond shafts with a stepped capping. The lower western section to the left has two small two-light windows (each light with three horizontal glazing bars) on the right and an inserted metal garage door on the left. Gabled dormers break the eaves on both sides, and substantial integral end stacks are present to the left and right, one with four rebated shafts and the other with three.
The north elevation, the rear, has a similar but slightly less regular fenestration pattern. The gable extends to the rear and includes a tall lateral stack and a flat-roofed infill section on the left. A cobbled yard lies beyond a wall to the northwest of the house and contains a single-storey wash house on its western side.
Inside, fireplaces in the main rooms have been replaced, but the house retains original six-panel doors and panelled window shutters throughout. The original Victorian staircase features stick balusters, a moulded handrail, and a radiating bottom newel. A small room off the landing, now a bathroom, is completely panelled.
