Description

Penrhyn Mawr is a farmhouse that has been pebbledashed and whitewashed on the front, featuring close-eaved low-pitched slate roofs and a prominent whitewashed chimney at the center of the ridge. The gables are coped. The building has two storeys and an attic, with the gable facade displaying a shallow gabled tall center and outshuts on either side, arranged in a three-window range.

The attic features a small four-pane sash window, while the first floor has a large four-pane sash window in the center, with narrower windows in the outshut end walls—two panes on the left and four panes on the right. The ground floor mirrors this arrangement, with a narrow four-pane sash window on the left, a larger six-pane sash window in the center, and a door with an overlight on the right. There is a lean-to on the left end wall and an added lean-to on the right end wall. The rear of the building is similar to the front, with four-pane sashes, but includes 20th-century windows on the first floor to the right and on the ground floor in the center and to the right, with no opening on the ground floor to the left. A tall chimney is located on the left corner of the outshut.

The farmhouse has an unusual plan, with larger rooms back-to-back on each side of the central stack, and the entry and stair positioned to the left.
