Description
Melin Daron is a 19th-century corn mill constructed from rubble stone with slate roofs. The building features a cross-range and wings, with one wing to the east and two parallel to the west. The stonework of the wings differs from that of the cross-range. The cross-range has a broad gable with a loft opening beneath a timber lintel, and on the ground floor, there are double boarded doors to the right, also set under a long timber lintel. The left wing includes a door with a timber lintel towards the left end, which appears to lead to a kiln-room for the drying loft. There are outside steps at the west end that lead to a tall loft door with a timber lintel. The right wing has a roof covered with grouted slates and features a ledged stable door at the extreme left. An added lean-to is present at the eastern end. The rear of the cross-wing has a hole for a vanished waterwheel and a first-floor opening to the right with a slab lintel. There is a small hole in the gable for controlling the launder, and the waterwheel axle is visible as of 2023. Behind the west wing, there is an added shorter parallel range with one window at the rear left and a west gable-end window above a window and door, both with slab lintels.
Much of the internal layout and mill machinery remains intact, including the machinery for corn drying and flour dressing. Many of the original beams are still present, some featuring 19th-century graffiti that has been carved or scorched into them.
