Description
Eureka Slate Mill is a 19th-century industrial building constructed from regularly coursed slate slabs and rubblestone. It features half-hipped slate roofs with full-length skylights along the ridges of the original building, although these have been extended down the roof slopes with corrugated plastic sheeting. The original layout consists of two long rectangular ranges oriented from southeast to northwest, separated by a central valley. The lower gabled ranges to the northwest may be original or added shortly thereafter. Both main ranges were initially accessible by railways at the end walls, and a doorway has been inserted into the long northeast wall to allow tracked vehicles access.
In 1978, a large breeze block and metal-sheet roofed building was added to the northeast side, connecting the mill to a small late 19th-century stone structure that has a lean-to slate slab roof. The original king-post roof structure remains intact in the 19th-century building. Inside, the mill contains late 20th-century Anderson Grice saws and a slate dresser, along with a conveyor belt installed in the southeast gable for removing trimming waste.
