Description
Garth-lwyd is a long rectangular, storeyed house with additional linear sections extending beyond the gable end chimney. It is built of whitened rubble with a slate roof and tiled ridge. The primary gable end is on the left, with lateral chimneys that are flush against the front elevation on the right. The main elevation, which faces away from the road, features a single-storey gabled porch at the center with an entrance on its right side and a small light at the front. To the left of the porch is a six-pane hall window with an exposed timber lintel. The upper floor has two four-pane windows under the eaves and a two-pane window on the right.
The road-facing elevation includes a double and a single four-pane window on the upper floor, along with two ground-floor windows on the right, all with expressed lintels and modern glazing. Above the central ground-floor window is an exposed timber lintel embedded in the masonry, with a similar lintel to the right. There is also a modern multi-pane bow window beyond this. The southern gable end has two windows on both the ground and first floors, with the ground-floor windows featuring lintels as previously described; these also have modern glazing.
At the northern end, there is a 19th-century addition made of whitened rubble, which is set back and stepped down from the main block and has an end chimney. This addition includes a part-glazed modern entrance on the right and modern windows on both floors to the left; the first-floor window slightly breaks the eaves and is contained within a shallow catslide dormer. There is a lean-to addition on the gable end of this section, featuring an entrance and a boarded door on the rear elevation facing the road.
The interior was not inspected during the survey, but it is noted to have a lateral chimney and inside cross-passage plan. It includes heavy ceiling beams and heavy plain chamfered joists. Originally, it had a two-room plan with two large hearths, one of which has a well-preserved bread oven.
