Description
The boundary wall to Vaynol Park, which includes railings along the Menai Strait shore, is constructed from local snecked and rock-faced stone rubble, topped with finely set Dinorwic slate copings that project jaggedly on both sides. It starts at the northern end near the road junction of the A487 and A5, southeast of the Britannia Bridge, and runs downhill to the south past the entrances to Vaynol Farm drive and Capel-y-Graig Lodge, extending to the roundabout junction of the A487 and A4087. The wall then turns southwest, passing the main drive entrance in front of the Grand Lodge, and continues in a distinctive crinkle-crankle manner to the junction with the B4547, where it steps back behind Nant Cottage due to the owner's refusal to sell the land. Beyond this point, the wall borders a narrow winding road until it reaches the entrance gate piers to the lane leading to Caerefail (Aberpwll), which face into Felinheli at right angles. The wall then turns inward, crossing and following the course of the Nant-y-garth, and passes the tall gate piers at Bryntirion lodge. It meets the Menai Strait shore at the harbour at Port Dinorwic. From there, a lower boundary wall runs north along the shoreline, including a section near Vaynol Dock and Boathouse, featuring iron railings on a stone plinth. This wall spans the mouth of a short canal that once served an earlier lime kiln and passes under the western drive. A railed clair-vue interrupts the wall opposite Bath Cottage.
