Description
Twrgwyn Welsh Presbyterian Chapel is a two-storey building featuring a three-window stepped front, with a central bay that projects under a bracketed pediment. The chapel is constructed of snecked rubble with Penmon dressings, including quoins at the ends and center, a cill band on the first floor, and a plinth. Both floors have cornices and closed balustraded parapets on the outer bays, topped with slate roofs. The first-floor windows are sash windows with balustraded aprons, while the main central window is tripartite, adorned with an entablature, cornice, and an advanced segmental pediment. The flanking windows are arched-headed. The ground floor features a deep entablature at the center, with paired pilasters, and arched-headed niches with keystones on either side of the main entrance, which is flanked by Tuscan columns and has panelled double doors. The outer windows have deep bracketed cornices with architraves.
The side elevations are finished in pebbledash and include sash windows, arched-headed on the first floor, all set within giant order architraves. There is a single-storey extension to the rear right, along with a taller five-bay hall at right angles behind that, which also features similar arched-headed sash windows.
The burial ground is enclosed by a rubble wall at the front and right side, complemented by railings and gate piers with pyramidal caps, and is much taller at the rear.
Inside, the rectangular galleried space showcases classical details, including an unusual plaster ceiling with bosses, ribs, and a central rose, all framed within an elongated octagonal border and a panelled frieze. The raked gallery, which has a panelled front, was added at the same time as the front and is supported by cast iron columns. The arched opening leading into the organ chamber is framed by fluted pilasters. The great seat is panelled and features foliage trails to the brass railings. Staircases with turned newels ascend from either end of the lobby. The hall at the rear has a complex roof structure with a boarded ceiling and patterned ventilators.
